Pikesville Meeting RoomAuthor Sarah Birnbach discusses her memoir, A Daughter's Kaddish: My Year of Grief, Devotion, and Healing. Her story follows an 11-month journey of prayer, self-discovery and healing.
Sarah Birnbach is an author and six-time award winner in the Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition and a two-time award winner from the Bethesda Magazine. A Daughter's Kaddish recounts Sarah Birnbach's odyssey to persevere through an unfamiliar world of Jewish prayer. To honor her beloved father, Sarah commits to reciting the Mourner's Kaddish twice a day in synagogue for 11 months--a Jewish mourning ritual that was historically reserved for sons--despite her father's initial request that she hire someone male to do so. A novice worshipper and single working mother, Sarah encountered many obstacles along the way but also discovered that the path of faith and grieving can also be healing.
