Dr. Todd Pittman from the physics department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) visits to explain quantum entanglement and answers your questions.
Entangled particles can exhibit behavior that Albert Einstein once called “spooky action at a distance.” Yet this behavior has now been experimentally observed, and recent advances in physics and technology have moved quantum entanglement from an academic curiosity to one of the key resources fueling the multibillion dollar quantum information revolution happening today. Highlights include UMBC’s impact in this area through a tradition of pioneering research on entangled photons (i.e. “particles of light”) and their applications in quantum information processing.
